When you post something about someone on Social Networks such as Twitter and Facebook, assuming they have an account, you can call them out directly by “mentioning” them in your post. This will make your post appear in their timeline in addition to your own, sort of inviting them into a conversation. It also creates a direct link from your post to that profile. Twitter and Facebook are essentially giant public conversations and a mention is your way of directing that conversation toward the people of your choice. You can use a hash-tag (#) or two if you wish to target specific conversation topics (Learn more about the importance of hash-tags in social media). Now keep in mind how many like-minded and interested people are following and/or listing the targeted profile and you will see how a mention can be a great way spread the word directly to a relevant audience..
